Nursing School Endowed
The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing received a $2.6 million endowment from
the Parry Foundation of
Houston which will allow a doubling of nursing scholarships and the
establishment of a gerontology program.
The gift is the largest
endowment ever made
to the 75-year-old College of Nursing, which
has about 230 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.
"The endowment
couldn't have come at a
better time," said Lorraine Singer, dean of
the nursing college.
"Tuition has increased
and government supported student loans
have decreased. We've
found that 67 percent of
our juniors are working
at least 30 hours a
week."
Oklahoma City Mayor
Andy Coates, OU president Frank Horton and
Health Sciences Center
provost Clayton Rich
will thank the Parry
Foundation trustees in
a diamond anniversary
reception from 3 to 5
p.m. Friday at the nurs-
ing college, 1100 N
Stonewall.
The auditorium and
classrooms on the nursing building's ground
floor will be dedicated
as the Parry Learning
Center.
